School’s out: High anxiety as 2022 class lists released

The wait is over for thousands of eager students and their parents after schools across Western Australia released their class lists for 2022.
Most schools now send the lists at the end of summer holidays to avoid complaints and requests for changes.
Parenting expert and Parental Guidance co-host Justin Coulson said the long wait could stir anxiety but parents should focus on the positives.
The father of six daughters told Steve Mills on Millsy at Midday it was normal for some families to be nervous about what class their kids were in.
“You can understand the sensitivities… sometimes they’ve got children who have got additional needs and really require a certain level of attention or response from teachers, and some teachers are better equipped than others to do that,” he said.
“Then when we spin it around, there’s also the kids, who might have some sort of anxiety… when they know they’re going to be in a class with their ‘bestie’, the reassurance that brings can really soften the anxiety they are feeling.”
