In 2023, scammers managed to steal a record-breaking $22 million from West Australia.

Commerce Minister Sue Ellery told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “We know it’s under-reported, so the research tells us it’s probably about a third that actually report. The real numbers will be much higher than that.”

“The biggest number of scams seem to be around are investment and romance. There is no fast way to make money if there really was, we all would’ve done it.”

“Practice a pause, if something seems too good to be true it probably isn’t true,” Minister Ellery said.
