Rockliffe Winery cancels all events due to council moving too slowly

One of the biggest vineyards in the Great Southern has cancelled all their events for the summer, citing an onerous council application process.
Rockliffe Winery placed a sign at the front of their business, directing any Shire of Denmark employees or councillors to a ten page application process to enter the business.
The sign also said the process would cost $1000 and be non-refundable.
The Shire of Denmark has now removed the sign.
Owner of Rockcliffe Winery, Dr Steve Hall told Gary Adshead said the council’s process was too slow.
“We did this (application process) in October,” Dr Hall said on 6PR Morning.
“Liquor licensing were a little bit tardy with their application.
“So the next thing I know is that the Shire sends me an email, saying that we have to fill in this form on the internet, we have to pay fees, and they take up to 30 days to approve it.
“I immediately sent an email back to them saying actually the first event is within 30 days, and actually you’ve got Christmas in that time.
So you’re not going to be able to do this until the end of January, and then it’s got to go to liquor licensing by which time all our events are over.”
