While robot vacuum cleaners are beloved for their convenience, they might compromise your privacy. The images collected by these devices are transmitted to developers to train the product’s AI, but where does this information end up?

Security Expert from Calamity Monitoring Daniel Lewkovitz told Chrissy Morrissy on 6PR Afternoons, “Unfortunately, we live in an age where given the choice between security, privacy or convenience. People will often choose convenience every time.”

“I think if people thought about it they’d actually be astonished how many cameras and microphones they have in their house without even thinking about it. It’s not uncommon for alarm clocks and even kitchen appliances to have microphones in it. So this is the trade-off between convenience and privacy or people really need to think about this when it goes wrong.”

“Technology is developing at a pace, far quicker than legislation can keep up. By the time the government catches up we’re either already used to something we shouldn’t of accepted  or have no control over it. So I don’t know that legislation is entirely the answer,” Mr Lewkovitz said.
