Retailers demand changes to ‘draconian’ opening hour laws

The new Dunreath Village Shopping Centre at Perth Airport has become a big talking point, and not just because FIFOs have a new, direct way to buy hot chickens.
The efficacy of a large shopping chain opening near the airport with 24-hour access has lead to operators once again calling for expandedtrading hour laws.

Australian Retailers Association CEO Paul Zahra told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the ever-changing state of modern consumerism demands more flexibility.
“It doesn’t make sense anymore, it’s sort of a draconian law when you’re restricting when shops can open,” Mr Zahra said.
