A new rollout of e-mobility laws has been introduced throughout Queensland, aiming to reduce injuries and fatalities involving e-rideables.

Anyone over 16 years old must hold a valid driver’s licence with a minimum of a learner’s licence, and young people aged 12 to 17 must be closely supervised by a parent or caregiver.

Queensland Police acting Deputy Commissioner Rhys Wildman told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that the shift could be seen almost immediately.

“In 39 years of policing, I haven’t seen such a significant cultural shift in our community within such a short period of time as we have with these new laws”, Wildman said.

“Essentially overnight we saw a huge reduction in the visible usage of these devices on our roads.”
