Qantas has been hit with an additional $90 million fine by the Federal Court for the illegal sacking of 1800 ground staff in 2020.

This penalty comes on top of the $120 million in compensation Qantas was already ordered to pay.

Michael Kaine, TWU National Secretary, told Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that this is “the largest penalty ever imposed in an industrial relations case by a country mile” and expressed hope that it will serve as a deterrent for other companies.

Kaine asserted, “You’re going to treat your workforce illegally and shabbily, and you’re going to be held to account.”
