Qantas CEO likens WA to North Korea as 18 new cases recorded

Western Australia has recorded 18 new COVID-19 community cases overnight, with two new exposure sites listed across Perth.
Canteen at Trigg Beach and QT Perth on Murray Street were confirmed as new sites on Friday, after 10 were listed on Thursday, while teachers and students at several schools across Perth are in quarantine after isolated cases marked the first week of term.
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce on Friday hit out at business and community uncertainty in WA, likening the situation in the state to North Korea.
“There isn’t a plan for when that’s going to open up – it’s starting to look like North Korea. It’s gonna be closed indefinitely at this stage,” he told 3AW in Melbourne,
His views came a day after Prime Minister Scott Morrison said WA needed a plan to reopen while supporting Premier Mark McGowan’s decision to postpone the border opening.
“I can absolutely understand the decision of the Premier as to why … he wouldn’t be opening a border, when he has concerns about whether his health system was ready to deal with the Omicron strain,” Mr Morrison told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast yesterday.
