There’s been a growing chorus of support for the Australian Ibis, affectionately known as the “bin chicken”, to be made the official mascot of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

Queensland Sports Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe has suggested the bird be put forward as a mascot for the games.

Queensland University of Technology’s Gary Mortimer says the Ibis is a classic Brisbane icon.
