Public transport fails force Busselton tourists to hike

Simon Beaumont

Public transport shortfalls have left some tourists in Busselton with no option but walk to the local airport 8km from the town foreshore, with luggage in tow.

Busselton resident of 25 years, Christina Lisson, told 6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett a friend recently picked up two tourists from the side of the road and delivered them to the Busselton Airport.

Mayor Grant Henley told Bartlett there are plans to fix the issue in the popular South West town, with some tourists left stranded by the shortfall in buses, taxis and ride-sharing services.

“We’re talking to the operator who offers the shuttle service for arriving passengers to get into town, if they haven’t pre-organised transport,” he said.

“That service is operated at the moment on a trial basis for free.”
