The government’s plans to establish a national firearms register is one step closer to fruition, with the public being asked to give feedback on the plan.

Police Minister Paul Papalia told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings the vast majority of illegal firearms in the country begin as legal weapons.

“The more effective monitoring and tracking and oversight of licensed firearms, the better it is for everybody,” Mr Papalia said.

“We want more improved safety for the police and the community.”
