Protesters deface iconic Australian painting with Woodside logo

Simon Beaumont

Protesters have vandalised the famous painting ‘Down on his Luck’ by Frederick McCubbin at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, spray-painting the artwork with the Woodside logo.

The environmental protesters took action allegedly in response to the gas giant’s operations in the Burrup Peninsula.

Michael Stamp Nine News Reporter told Gary Adshead the woman has glued herself to the wall next to the painting, and is yet to exit the building as police officers and security guards have sealed the doors to the public.
