Joana Partyka the protester responsible for defacing Frederick McCubbin’s iconic 1889 painting Down on His Luck has been fined $7500.

The defendant pushed for a spent conviction so she wouldn’t have a criminal record which could affect future employment.

However, the Magistrate denied this request as they were ‘unconvinced’ she wouldn’t re-offend, despite her positive character references.
