Protecting Australians on and off the road through licensing reform

Driving in Australia is about to become a little harder for visitors, with 16 countries being removed from the list of accepted licences in Australia.

Michael Nieuwesteeg, Austroads’ Road Safety & Design Program Manager, explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that the changes were made for a few reasons, including safety and avoiding documentation fraud.

“Making sure that we’re applying a very similar level of rigger to the overseas licenses as we do to Australians who get a license,” he said.
