An anticipated overhaul of the state Cat Act is set for introduction in 2026, following years of lobbying efforts.

City of Fremantle Councillor Adin Lang, a long-time advocate for this change, informed Perth Live presenter Oliver Peterson that the new legislation will shift the responsibility to cat owners to ensure their pets remain on their property.

Lang stated, “I never thought the day would happen, but this is a win for local governments, for the environment, for cats.”
