Private hospitals on the verge of collapse
The future of Australia’s private hospital sector is in question, with nearly 80 private hospitals closing within five years.
Private patients are being forced onto the overstretched public system – pushing wait times up for tens of thousands of public patients.
Doctors are also predicting by 2030 there’ll be no private maternity services.
Australian Medical Association WA President, Dr Michael Page told Oly Peterson on Perth Live there’s no guarantee WA’s private hospitals will survive forever, especially without revenue coming in from the private health insurers.
