The Prime Minister has urged West Australians to get the COVID -19 vaccine to help reopen the country.

Premier Mark McGowan has indicated that even if more than 70 percent of the adult population is fully vaccinated, it may still be unsafe to ease border restrictions.

Speaking with 6PR’s Liam Bartlett, Scott Morrison said we need to learn to live with the virus.

“People think that borders protect people from COVID, well now I’m sorry the Delta variant is stronger than borders and the best protection is getting vaccinated,” he said.

“Delta will come at some point, and at that time, only the vaccine will provide you that protection. Borders and other things won’t.

Premier Mark McGowan has said if we “deliberately import” the virus it will shut down parts of the mining industry.

But the Prime Minister said keeping borders closed will only worsen workforce shortage issues for the industry.

“The longer you keep Western Australia shut up, the longer those businesses and those industries are going to struggle to get the workers they need to go ahead.”
