A recent October summit addressed new strategies for Australia’s approach to its ageing population.

Claus Christophersen, an Associate Professor at Edith Cowan University, explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that as our population increases in age, a sharper focus on healthy ageing is essential.

He stressed the need for change, stating:

“We need to have a different approach because we don’t believe what we’re doing at the moment is probably helping the community,” he said.

Supporting this, Clare Mullen, Executive Director of the Health Consumers’ Council WA, highlighted the importance of preventative action.

She added: “We can do things to protect ourselves and our families from becoming sick and we can look forward to our older years being a time of contribution and participation and sharing our knowledge and wisdom,” she said.
