At least 44 people are now confirmed dead and hundreds remain missing following the devastating fire at a high-rise apartment complex in Hong Kong.

Around 800 firefighters continue their efforts to control the blaze, as dozens of rescue teams begin the difficult task of searching the extinguished buildings.

Hong Kong journalist Ryan Chang told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that a police investigation is underway into the possible use of substandard building materials.

Chang stated: “Police have arrested 3 people for gross negligence and also on suspicions of manslaughter,” he said.
