Police policy against tattoos

Article image for Police policy against tattoos

A former Defence Force serviceman had his application to join the Police Force turned down due to a tattoo on his neck with the patriotic words “Lest We Forget”.
But the WA Police Commissioner says the policy on tattoos is reasonable and will remain.

“We don’t permit officers to have tattoos over their hands; so they can have them over their wrists, but not over their hands and fingers, not over their necks or their face,” Police Commissioner Chris Dawson told 6PR Breakfast.

“We’ve had recruits join us, in fact we had a recruit the other day who said ‘look, I couldn’t get in because I had a tattoo on my neck and so I got it removed.’ Very simple.”
