Western Australia’s top cop says he hopes police can return to old-fashioned policing as soon as possible.

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson joined Gareth Parker for their first chat of 2022 on 6PR Breakfast and said he hoped WA could move on from the hard border and accompanying restrictions currently in force.

“My aspiration would be that police stick to policing, but we have an important role to… coordinate state emergency, and it’s still a state emergency,” he said.

“My aspiration is, let’s actually move on, but at the moment we can’t move on… one would hope with all of the vaccination we’ve got… hopefully we’ll be able to get out of this.”
