Wrongfully convicted: The incredible story of John Artis

In the 1960s American boxer Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter was wrongfully convicted of the murder of three people. The case inspired Bob Dylan to write his famous song Hurricane and even grabbed the attention of Muhammad Ali.

Together with Carter that night was an aspiring track athlete who had just turned twenty years old and who barely knew him, John Artis. He was the man behind the wheel of Carter’s car and who would be also wrongfully accused of the murder.

Carter is no longer alive, but John Artis is. He joins Jane and Paul Murray to talk about his story – revealing information never broadcast before.
