Why WA could have to pay legal bills for Clive Palmer

Clive Palmer’s challenge of Western Australia’s border closures is set to reach a critical juncture with a judgement due in the Federal Court today.

After the Federal Government withdrew from the court proceedings the WA Government filed an urgent application to have the Federal Government’s expert testimonies withdrawn and have the whole matter re-heard.

Monash University Constitutional Law expert associate professor Luke Beck says if a retrial is called for the State Government could be required to pay Mr Palmer’s legal bills.

He also described the actions by the State Government as “suspiciously like delaying tactics”.
