We need drastic action – Motor Trades Association

Oliver Peterson

The Motor Trades Association is floating the idea of a three month license suspension for those who get caught using their mobile phones while driving.

The current penalty for using a phone behind the wheel is a $400 fine and three demerits.

Oliver Peterson spoke to Motor Trades Association CEO Stephen Moir about why he is suggesting such a severe penalty.

“We need a breaker. This is out of control. The number of people across all age groups who are continually on their phones while their driving is out of control.

“We need some drastic responses to cut this incident out.”
