‘The most marginal industry in Australia’
A Perth restaurateur has outlined the ‘perfect storm’ the industry is facing as expenses and wages go up but fewer patrons come through the doors.
Jeremy Cariss is the owner of Bistro Felix and chairman of the Restaurant and Catering Industry Association spoke with Gareth Parker on Mornings explaining there was a general reluctance in the industry to increase the prices of meals even though the prices for utilities, produce and labour continued to increase.
Mr Cariss said few, if any, restaurants were making big profits and the industry was the most marginal one in Australia.
