The fascinating story behind “The Coffee Pot” scrapbook

Harvey Deegan

In this segment with the State Library of WA we look at the fascinating story of “The Coffee Pot” scrapbook. The Perth café was around from the 1950s to the early 1980s. The Coffee Pot was a popular hangout for many, offering style, sophistication, and a welcoming atmosphere and was owned by Dutch migrants, Prada and Rob Van der Nagel.

It contains various photographs and ephemeral pieces, such as advertising, certificates, newspaper clippings, and mementos related to the Coffee Pot.

Dr Kate Gregory joined Harvey Deegan on “Remember When” to talk about how this scrapbook highlights post war Perth and the emergence of cafe culture.
