State Govt apologises to WA police officers forced to medically retire

The State Government has apologised to 299 former WA Police officers – and their families – forced to medically retire from the force.

Historically, officers unable to perform their duties due to injury or illness were dismissed as a ‘loss of confidence’ through the Police Act’s ‘Section 8.’

Certificates of Honourable Discharge were yesterday presented to former officers at ceremonies in Perth and Bunbury.

Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Dreigbers told Gareth Parker they’re emotional events.
