State government trial puts boaties under the radar

Transport minister Rita Saffioti recently announced a new water radar trial by the state government aimed at targeting speeding boaties along the Swan River in East Fremantle.

The trial will see the installation of a radar unit with an LED display along the speeding hotspot which will provide skippers with feedback on their speed.

The aim of the trial is to slow vessels down to the eight-knot speed limit which applies in the area.

Boating WA vice-president  Kim Wilkie said the association welcomed the initiative which would make waters safer for users.

He joined Karl O’Callaghan on Sunday to talk about the initiative.
