Plan to play AFL games at Eagles nest ruffles feathers

Gary Adshead

The West Coast Eagles appear to have flown into a stoush with the local council over their training ground and whether the club is entitled to host matches there.

The Town of Victoria Park is seeking legal advice over tomorrow night’s AFL pre-season clash with Essendon at Lathlain Park.

Mayor Karen Vernon told Gareth Parker on Mornings the Eagles’ 2014 lease agreement for their headquarters there doesn’t allow for the play of competition matches at the venue.

“This issue has been raised in association with tomorrow’s match, and we feel it is important to ensure that we can clarify that position for our community because there is no doubt that the West Coast Eagles playing matches at Lathlain Park is an opportunity for economic development.”
