New Takata airbag recall prompts car buy-back offer

Jo McManus

Drivers are being urged to check if their vehicles are affected by the latest Takata airbag recall.

More than 18,000 cars manufactured between 1996 and 2000, have been added to the list by Audi, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Toyota.

They’re fitted with the potentially deadly Takata NADI 5-AT airbags.

ACCC Chair Stephen Ridgeway told Jo McManus, the car makers have said they may buy-back affected models and drivers should contact the manufacturer.

“Driver should take these warnings very seriously.

“They [the airbags] pose a very serious safety risk that could lead to the death or serious injuries of drivers of passengers.”
