New purple benches are colour for a cause

Joondalup city centre has become the latest Perth suburb to bring a little purple to their streets to raise awareness around domestic homicide.

The two purple benches join the 46 others which have popped up in the last few months in suburbs like South Perth, Armadale, Belmont, Fremantle, Subiaco, and even some regional areas.

The Purple Bench Project honours those who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence, and contains the contact details for Women’s Council domestic violence helpline.

Angela Hartwig, Chief Executive of the Women’s Council for Domestic Violence and Family Services, joins us to tell us about this wonderful local movement.
