Lack of sealed roads cuts WA off from the east – it needs fixing

The Eyre Highway was reopened this morning after being closed for 12 days due to a massive fire burning. The closure meant WA was cut off from the eastern states.

State Liberal Member for Kalgoorlie Kryan O’Donnell overseas an electorate nearly 600,000 square kilometres in size and has witnessed the issues of the only sealed road in and out of the area being closed for nearly two weeks.

Stories are coming out of people losing their jobs, families being trapped with no money and no place to stay. Complaints have been rare because there was a sense that people in the east have it worse. Thankfully the town’s people have rallied to help them but it’s shined a light on the need for more sealed roads.

Mr O’Donnell spoke to Jo McManus about what he is asking for from the Federal Government to stop this happening again.
