The Cockburn Faces of the Community artworks have been controversial for all of the 13 years since they were installed.

Now they’ve been removed over safety concerns, but WAtoday journalist Hamish Hastie says in an article today, those weird, weird pieces of public art were one of the only reasons anyone knew, or cared, the suburb existed.
