‘It’s tough we’ve been singled out here’

A Margaret River brewing company is continuing to carry out a review of its name after being dumped by a Victorian liquor store for its use of the word ‘Colonial’.

Colonial Brewing Co says the company name in no way celebrates colonisation but is instead a reference to establishing itself in a predominately wine-based region.

Managing Director Lawrence Dowd told Gary Adshead on Mornings the issue was first raised a little while ago before coming to a head on Sunday.

He says when the company name was inherited he never anticipated there would be concerns around racism.
