Is it really wage theft?

It’s been revealed today that Wesfarmers have uncovered $24 millions in “payroll errors”, they join other major companies like Target and Coles in employee underpayments. If it’s difficult for our major companies to navigate award pay rates, how do the smaller companies fare?

Director at Murfett Legal Kelly Parker told Oliver Peterson that Australia has one of the most complex industrial relation systems in the world.

“There are over 100 modern awards.

“Navigating through these awards for small businesses can be difficult.

“Most businesses wouldn’t set out to deliberately underpay their staff. I think a lot of the time you’re dealing with honest mistakes with underpayments of staff, so bringing in a criminal element to that seems a bit extreme.”

Plus Ms Parker gives Perth LIVE listeners some advice if they think you’ve been underpaid.
