Homes under threat in age pension review

A review into efficiency and effectiveness of age pension and compulsory superannuation is underway and has found there are more than 255,000 elderly living in million-dollar plus homes collecting $6.3bn in age pension payments each year.

But the 6PR listeners say the review would end up punishing the people who have done the right thing and worked hard for what they’ve got.

“I think the important thing is this topic should be on the table, too often it’s immediately taken off the table.
“If you’re going to start means testing, including the house you live in, other things need to be on the table as well, we can compromise in other areas,” economist, John Humphreys, told 6PR Breakfast.
