Health Minister to private hospitals: ‘Don’t lay off your staff’

The WA Health Minister has urged private hospitals not to lay off staff members saying we need ‘all hands on deck’ in the battle against COVID-19.

Roger Cook says he’s inking a deal with the private hospital sector to keep it together for when the coronavirus situation worsens.

There are reports Perth’s private hospitals are standing down staff – including doctors and nurses – because non-urgent elective surgeries have been pushed back.

Mr Cook says the government will need access to private beds and services in the event the virus goes widespread in the community.
