Government plans to legislate McKechnie reappointment

Oliver Peterson

The state government will introduce legislation this week to reappoint John McKechnie as Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission.

Mr McKechnie’s term expires at the end of the month but a member of the Joint Standing Committee voted against his reappointment.

The Premier wrote to the Opposition Leader for her support but was rejected.

Mark McGowan says the Liberal Party hasn’t provided a reason why they are opposing Mr McKechnie’s reappointment.

Oliver Peterson spoke with Attorney-General John Quigley and State Opposition Leader Liza Harvey.
