A recent report by the Inspector of Custodial Services has raised concerns around the safety and security at Casuarina prison following a 20% increase in the prison population in the last 12 months.

Alarmingly, the prison was opened in 1991 with a design capacity of 397, but almost 950 prisoners were being housed there during the most recent inspection.
