Fine for contractor over prisoner escape

Contractor Broadspectrum is set to be fined over $100,000 over Laurie John Junior Dodd’s escape from Royal Perth Hospital.

Dodd was not properly secured or managed according to existing Department of Justice policies.

The Department of Justice has also introduced an enhanced compliance program for hospital visits to ensure that contract staff or corrections officers are following policies for the management of prisoners.

The risk assessment process for all escorts will now treat any Outlaw Motorcyle Group members with high security escorts.

Corrective Services Minister Francis Logan told Jo McManus there was a clear failing by both Broadspectrum and The Department of Justice.
