Bandyup Womens Prison marks 50 years

Millsy & Karl

Bandyup Women’s Prison marks 50 years of operation. The Swan Valley facility first opened its doors to women prisoners in 1970. Today it houses maximum, medium and minimum security prisoners and has a mother and babies unit for up to 12 women.

Mike Henderson, Assistant Superintendent of Operations at Bandyup Women’s Prison has worked at the prison for 19 years and says that rehabilitation is very much their focus.

We also heard an incredible call from Scott that says that he was a boarder at Wesley College and in 1976 was taken there for a school social to dance with the inmates.
