Are you owed money from the ATO?

The Australian Tax Office says about 200,000 Aussies are missing out on money because they haven’t lodged their tax return.

“Last year we wrote to about 200,000 people who we thought were owed probably between $500 and $5,000, so they’re not small amounts of money,” Kath Anderson from the ATO told 6PR Breakfast.
“Two of the people that did end up lodging had between $20,000 and $25,000 refunds,” she said.

Ms Anderson says people who have left their tax returns too long shouldn’t be stressed, but to contact the ATO and they can help.

6PR Breakfast listeners told Steve and Baz about their late returns and Julie offered free help to those in need.
