Age doesn’t stop new boxing champ

A 72-year-old Perth man has become the 2018 Alice Springs Master Games champion after defeating his 77-year-old opposition last night.

It was Bob “Uncle” Humphreys first big bout and says he knows it can be a dangerous sport, but other activities are dangerous too.
“Well, it’s supposed to be, but I only gave up racing motorbikes two years ago so I moved on to a safer sport,” Mr Humphreys told 6PR Breakfast.

Mr Humphreys also assists with coaching at his local boxing gym, Pondy’s Gym, with his coach Alan Pond. A proud “Pondy” joined Mr Humphreys at Alice Springs for the competition.
