Mining magnate Andrew Forrest has now donated a total of $1.5 billion to the Minderoo Foundation with another $655 million given over the past six months.

Mr Forrest founded the organisation back in 2001 with the aim of tackling global challenges such as plastic pollution.

He says his motivation behind giving so much of his wealth is simply to leave a better world for generations to come.
