PM backs aged care plan despite dim view of success

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he makes no apologies for being “ambitious” in aged care, despite WA facilities closing their doors as strict staffing requirements near.
The statement follows concerns from the Australian Nurses Union, among others, that the country’s aged care system is woefully underprepared to maintain a 24-hour nursing schedule, as laid out by federal government.
Older Persons Advocacy Network CEO Craig Gear told Gary Adshead onĀ 6pr Mornings the network was actively working with aged care providers to bridge the gap between supply and demand.
“There will be times when providers have to make – unfortunately – business decisions, but how do you do that in a way that looks at all the options and works with the community to make sure they’re part of this discussion?” Mr Gear said.
