Australia is being warned to expect Chinese ships and aircraft to arrive in Solomon Islands within four weeks under a security agreement that has rocked the federal election campaign and sparked a ferocious Labor attack on the Coalition for waiting too long to try to stop the deal.

The ALP announced a “whole of governments” strategy on Tuesday to counter China and hope the security controversy sent votes their way.

Respected Solomon Islands politician and son to its first Prime Minister, Peter Kenilorea, told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings that the Solomon Islands PM has ‘gotten into bed with the Chinese with this security pact’.

“Well I think it’s for his own personal agenda. There is nothing in it for Solomon Islands,” he told Bartlett on Tuesday.
