Pets on pills: why a rising number of cats, dogs and rabbit have anxiety

A rising number of pets are being medicated for anxiety with vets noting a spike in dogs, cats and rabbits needing treatment for nervous behaviour, including pill prescriptions.
Seventy per cent of dogs are on medication according to reports, with pet owners paying an average of $20 per tablet for some prescription drugs.
ZamiPet head veterinarian dog Doctor Andrew McKay told Millsy and Mick onĀ 6PR Breakfast the post-Covid return to work had a detrimental effect on many pets.
“A lot of people bought dogs and cats over the Covid period and all they know is having their owners at home,” Dr McKay said.
