Pets on pills: why a rising number of cats, dogs and rabbit have anxiety

Millsy & Karl

A rising number of pets are being medicated for anxiety with vets noting a spike in dogs, cats and rabbits needing treatment for nervous behaviour, including pill prescriptions.

Seventy per cent of dogs are on medication according to reports, with pet owners paying an average of $20 per tablet for some prescription drugs.

“A lot of people bought dogs and cats over the Covid period and all they know is having their owners at home,” Dr McKay said.
