Western Australia’s peak motoring body is calling for a government inquiry into the petrol price cycle after unleaded surged to almost $2 a litre today.

The average cost for unleaded fuel is now a $1.90.3 per litre, a record high, with the bottom of the price cycle not expected to come around for another fortnight.

RAC Vehicles and Fuels manager Alex Forrest told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings he would entertain the idea of a government inquiry.

“We still are yet to hear a valid explanation from the petrol companies as to why they need to be running this petrol price cycle,” he said.
