A Perth woman will take a break from the glamorous cinema industry and head to Malawi, where she hopes to help break the cycle of poverty and hunger for those in need.

Jo Rao told 6PR’s Chris Ilsley she will travel to the African nation in November to work with The Hunger Project as part of The Business Chicks Immersion and Leadership Program. 

She hopes to raise $10,000 and will host a TV-themed trivia night on 26 August to help her reach the target.
