A Perth teen has been jailed for six years over a hit and run resulting in a toddler’s death.

On November 3 2021, three-year-old Gareth Tetteh tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle driving more than 130kmh, giving the little boy no time move out the way or react.

Devlin Bartholomew, who was 18 when the tragedy occurred, has been sentenced to six years and four months jail for manslaughter, failing to stop after the incident and failing to report the incident to police.

Gareth’s mother told media “no words can begin to describe the profound effect this death has had on our family,”.

“There’s no greater pain than seeing your child lying in hospital and there is nothing you can do to help,” she said.

Justice Joseph McGrath of the Supreme Court of WA noted the sentence of Bartholomew must deter other young men from driving irresponsibility.
